Training Councilors on Budgetting and Citizen Involvement

NewSeta delivered comprehensive training to the Maputsoe Council focused on the principles and practices of participatory budgeting and the importance of citizen involvement in local governance. This initiative was designed to empower community members by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to engage in the budgeting process actively. The training emphasised the importance of prioritising community needs, ensuring that local development projects are not only aligned with citizens’ aspirations but also effectively address the community’s most pressing challenges.

Through interactive workshops and practical exercises, participants learned how to facilitate discussions, gather input from diverse community members, and translate that feedback into actionable budget proposals. The overarching goal of this training was to foster a culture of transparency and accountability within the council, encouraging a collaborative approach to decision-making that genuinely reflects the voice of the people. By involving citizens in the budgeting process, NewSETA seeks to influence the Maputsoe Council to develop a more inclusive and responsive governance framework that ultimately leads to sustainable development and an improved quality of life for all residents.
